Terminator 2: Judgment Day – Throwback Thursday
Intro to… Terminator 2: Judgment Day
He is back! Well sort of. He died. So this is more like a replacement model. But he is back anyway!!
Eleven years after the events of The Terminator two new Terminators are sent back in time to 1995. We get our traditional T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and its new and improved little brother the T-1000 (Robert Patrick). This time their target is not Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), but her son and future resistance leader John Connor (Edward Furlong).
To prevent the future from happening Sarah has been performing acts of sabotage and destruction. She was eventually caught by the authorities and has been incarcerated in an institute for the criminally insane. This leaves 10-year old John all on his own to deal with two highly dangerous Terminators.
Should I Watch It?
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a worthy sequel to the fast paced action-packed Sci-Fi thrill ride that was The Terminator. Unlike its predecessor it has a slightly larger focus on its narrative and teaches you more about Skynet and how the future has come to pass. But do not worry, we still get to see Schwarzenegger blast everything to smithereens while uttering corny catchphrases.
This was the first movie ever to have a budget of over 100 million dollar, and they put it to good use. The action scenes look great and even though relatively little CGI was used; it received so much care and devotion that it can still compete with today’s standards.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is generally considered to be the best movie of the franchise. It is visually spectacular, the story is great, the characters are memorable, and it has given us a bunch of unforgettable one-liners. But if I am honest, I like The Terminator better. Compared to its predecessor I felt sort of underwhelmed. The main reason for this is that the T-1000 just never comes across as intimidating as the Terminator did in the prequel. Add to this that the T-800 is now protecting John and Sarah which comparatively increases their chance for survival and in turn creates less tension. Having said that Terminator 2 is still a great action movie and definitely worth the watch.
Yes, watch it.
